Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that she had no plans to renegotiate a $550 billion investment package deal reached with the U.S.

“I believe that even if the prime minister changes, promises made between governments should not be altered,” Takaichi told reporters at the end of diplomatic events.

Although Takaichi had previously mentioned that tariff renegotiation with Washington was not off the table if something seemed unfair or harmful to Japan's national interests, she has now clearly ruled out any plans to revisit this deal.

Before the South Korea trip, Takaichi also held her first bilateral meeting with Trump in Tokyo, and she added that she had "frank, direct discussions and built personal relationships" with the president of the U.S.

Additionally, she indicated her intention to build a constructive and stable relationship with China during recent regional diplomatic engagements.

So far, no projects were finalized under Japan’s $550 billion investment pledge while Trump was in the country for a visit last week. However, Japan's trade and finance ministries did issue a fact sheet [https://www.mof.go.jp/policy/international_policy/convention/dialogue/20251028.html] about the $550 billion deal while Trump was in Japan.
