BP (BP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BP]) is in active talks [https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/bp-active-talks-with-stonepeak-over-castrol-sale-sources-say-2025-11-12/] with investment firm Stonepeak over the sale of its Castrol lubricants unit, Reuters reported Wednesday, in what would be a major step in meeting the company's $20 billion divestment goal.
Reuters said it could not establish the value or structure of Stonepeak's consideration or if BP (BP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BP]) is currently in talks with other parties including P-E firm One Rock about a deal for Castrol; a deal may not materialize, the report said.
The Castrol sale is part of BP's (BP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BP]) strategy shift to refocus as it tries to boost profitability and fend off pressure from investors including activist hedge fund Elliott.
RBC analysts said in recent weeks that market expectations for the sale are ~$8 billion.
