* Verizon (NYSE:VZ [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/VZ]) said it has appointed former PayPal (PYPL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PYPL]) CEO Dan Schulman as its new CEO, succeeding Hans Vestberg.
The telecom company said Vestberg will stay on as a special advisor until Oct. 4, 2026, and as a board member until the company's 2026 annual meeting. It also announced the appointment of Mark Bertolini as chairman.
“The Board is thrilled to have Dan as Verizon’s next CEO, and embark on a new chapter of growth and sector leadership,” said Bertolini, in a statement [https://www.verizon.com/about/news/verizon-announces-ceo-transition].
“Dan is a seasoned and decisive leader with a unique set of experiences, and a proven record of transformative leadership and operational excellence. He is the right leader to chart Verizon's next phase of increased customer focus and financial growth," Bertolini added.
Schulman has served on Verizon's board since 2018.
* Nike (NYSE:NKE [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NKE]) CEO Elliott Hill said it will take time for the company's turnaround plan to return the company to profitable growth.
“It’s gonna take a while,” Hill told CNBC during an interview [https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/06/nike-ceo-interview-elliott-hill-turnaround.html] on Monday. “It’s not linear. But it is a portfolio, and ultimately the goal is to have the entire portfolio all working together to drive the revenue and the profit that we hope to deliver for all of our investors.”
* Paramount Skydance (NASDAQ:PSKY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PSKY]) has acquired former New York Times op-ed editor Bari Weiss's The Free Press and named her as editor-in-chief of CBS News.
"Bari is a proven champion of independent, principled journalism, and I am confident her entrepreneurial drive and editorial vision will invigorate CBS News," said Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison, in a statement [https://www.paramount.com/press/paramount-announces-deal-to-acquire-the-free-press].
“This is an important initiative for our company and Bari will report directly to me – leading the work of The Free Press and collaborating with our CBS News team in the pursuit of making it the most trusted name in news. We believe the majority of the country longs for news that is balanced and fact-based, and we want CBS to be their home," Ellison added.
Paramount said The Free Press has 1.5 million subscribers, of which 170,000 are paid. Weiss founded the company after resigning from the NYT in 2020.
