Stripe's Bridge to power MetaMask's new stablecoin across blockchains

Crypto wallet giant MetaMask is entering the stablecoin space with a new token issued by Stripe's (STRIP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/STRIP]) Bridge platform and built on decentralized stablecoin protocol M0, it said on Thursday.

At launch, MetaMask USD (mUSD) will be available on the Ethereum and Consensys-backed Linea layer two blockchains, with plans to expand to other networks. MetaMask was developed by Consensys, an Ethereum-focused software firm.

The token Users will be able to swap, bridge and transfer the coin inside MetaMask, which already connects over 100M people to Web3 applications.

"By integrating natively into MetaMask's product offering, it will allow us to cut through some of the most stubborn barriers in web3 and reduce both friction and costs for people onboarding directly into a self-custodial wallet," said Gal Eldar, product lead at MetaMask.

 

Later in the year, MetaMask expects [https://metamask.io/news/metamask-announces-stablecoin-metamask-usd?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=cmp-413202158-afbf08] mUSD to reach beyond crypto markets. A forthcoming Mastercard (MA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MA]) card, tied into a vast payment network, will let holders spend the token at traditional merchants, positioning the wallet as a player in mainstream payments as well as a gateway into decentralized finance.

The move comes in the wake of greater regulator clarity under pro-crypto U.S. President Donald Trump. The recent passage of the GENIUS Act unveiled the first comprehensive framework for regulating payment stablecoins.
