Stock futures edged down on Monday as market participants reacted to President Donald Trump's announcement of a new $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications, effective September 21, 2025.
Here are some of Monday's biggest stock movers:
BIGGEST STOCK GAINERS
* METSERA (NASDAQ:MTSR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MTSR]) +57% - Shares surged after reports that Pfizer (PFE [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PFE]) is nearing a $7.3B takeover of the weight-loss drug maker. The deal would value Metsera at $47.50 per share in cash, plus an additional $22.50 contingent on performance milestones, according to the Financial Times. The offer represents a ~42% premium to Friday’s close. An announcement could come as early as Monday, pending final deal talks.
* ODP CORP. (ODP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ODP]) +33% - The office supplies retailer said it will be taken private by an affiliate of Atlas Holdings in a $1B deal at $28/share in cash, a 34% premium to Friday’s close. Upon completion, ODP will be delisted from Nasdaq. The transaction is expected to close by year-end 2025. Atlas, a Connecticut-based firm with 29 portfolio companies generating $20B+ in annual revenue, said the deal will deliver “substantial value” to ODP shareholders.
BIGGEST STOCK LOSERS
* QUANTUM COMPUTING (QUBT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/QUBT]) -19% - Shares plunged after the company announced an oversubscribed private placement of 26.9M shares, raising $500M in gross proceeds. The deal, priced at-the-market under Nasdaq rules, included participation from major existing holders and a first-time investment from a global alternative asset manager. QUBT plans to use the funds for commercialization, acquisitions, and expansion efforts.
* COMPASS (COMP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/COMP]) -8% - Shares dipped after the company announced an all-stock merger with Anywhere Real Estate (HOUS [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/HOUS]), valuing the combined company at ~$10B, including debt. Anywhere shareholders will receive 1.436 shares of Compass for each Anywhere share, equating to $13.01 based on Compass’ 30-day VWAP. Post-close (H2 2026), Compass holders will own ~78% of the combined entity, with Anywhere holders at ~22%. The deal brings in $1B+ in additional revenue from Anywhere’s brands (Century 21, Coldwell Banker, Sotheby’s Realty, etc.) and is expected to generate $225M+ in OPEX synergies, boosting free cash flow and strengthening the balance sheet. Anywhere Real Estate (HOUS [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/HOUS]) rose 56% following the announcement.
* KENVUE (NYSE:KVUE [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/KVUE]) -3% - Shares slipped following a report that the Trump administration plans to announce a potential link between Tylenol (acetaminophen) use during pregnancy and autism. Tylenol is a core product of Kenvue’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit. Despite the White House's confirmation of an impending announcement on autism, Kenvue reaffirmed that no proven causal link exists between acetaminophen and autism.
* BITCOIN USD (BTC-USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BTC-USD]) -2% - Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks slipped about 3% to 4% in Monday’s premarket session, pressured by the fallout from over $1.5B in bullish bets being liquidated in the digital asset market. The wave of forced unwindings in leveraged crypto positions dragged sentiment lower, prompting early weakness in names like Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/COIN]), Marathon Digital (NASDAQ:MARA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MARA]), Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MSTR]), Bitfarms (NASDAQ:BITF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BITF]), HIVE Digital Technologies (NASDAQ:HIVE [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/HIVE]), and Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/RIOT]).
