Meta (NASDAQ:META [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/META]) is planning to unveil its first consumer-ready glasses with a display and a wristband for users to control the glasses with hand gestures, _CNBC_ reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The devices will be showcased at the company's annual Connect conference next month, an event focused on virtual reality, augmented reality and the metaverse.

The glasses, internally called Hypernova [https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/22/meta-hypernova-ar-glasses-wristband.html], will include a small digital display in the right lens. The color display will offer about a 20 degree field of view, and will be used primarily for notifications such as incoming text messages.

The glasses are expected to cost around $800 apiece and will come paired with a wristband that uses sEMG sensor technology, which detects and interprets electrical signals from hand movements.

The glasses will be sold under Meta's (NASDAQ:META [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/META]) partnership [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4465967-meta-buys-minority-stake-in-eyewear-giant-essilorluxottica-worth-35b] with EssilorLuxottica (OTCPK:ESLOF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ESLOF]). While it's unclear which brand will be used, the companies were reportedly planning to release Prada-branded smart glasses. Prada glasses have thick frames and arms, which could make them suitable for Hypernova.

"This model will enable the user to take and share photos and videos, make phone calls and video calls, send and receive messages, listen to audio playback and interact with an AI assistant in different forms and methods, including voice, display, and manual interactions," according to a letter dated July 23 from the Customs and Border Patrol to a lawyer representing Meta (META [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/META]).

The letter is part of routine communication when determining the country of origin for a consumer product. A source confirmed to _CNBC _that this letter was in reference to Hypernova.
