[Intel Lays Off 4000 Workers In Several States]
The U.S. government has picked up a roughly 10% stake in Intel (NASDAQ:INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) for $8.9B and primarily funded by federal grants, but the debate continues over whether this is a good idea.
Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) shares rose about 12% since media reports began surfacing of the government stake plan a couple of weeks ago. But shares pared some gains on Monday after the chipmaker flagged some risks arising [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4488912-intel-rises-even-as-it-says-new-us-stake-ups-risks] from the stake, such as the impact on future grants and its international sales.
Some analysts think Intel (NASDAQ:INTC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INTC]) could benefit from the government's support, but others believe the investment won't resolve its deeper technological and competitive issues.
Most Seeking Alpha readers don't think it's a good idea, according to this week’s survey [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeE3ZOuHO7Z935_cUJNeYXVkXC3y0uj8ovxhxRDMdZfZxySeA/viewanalytics] on Wall Street Breakfast, which gathered over 2,600 responses.
