Google VP says company plans to spin off life sciences unit Verily: report

During Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOG])(NASDAQ:GOOGL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOGL]) federal trial versus the U.S. Department of Justice in Alexandria, Va., on Thursday, Google's vice president of security engineering, Heather Adkins, said Alphabet has worked for the past two years to spin off its life sciences unit, Verily, according to Bloomberg.

"We are in the process of helping them become an independent company," she said, according to the report [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-02/alphabet-plans-sale-or-spin-off-of-verily-unit-executive-says?srnd=homepage-americas]. "It's no longer something we see as part of our core business."

Verily uses data to transform medical research and healthcare delivery. The platform uses data analytics to help develop therapies and improve health systems.

The Justice Department alleges Google has illegally monopolized advertising technology. The Justice Department wants the judge to force the divestiture of Google's advertising exchange. The trial is expected to continue into next year.
