Universal Music (OTCPK:UMGNF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/UMGNF]) and Warner Music (NASDAQ:WMG [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/WMG]) are closing in on reaching "landmark" deals for artificial intelligence licensing, according to a Thursday report by the _Financial Times_, citing sources. The companies could each secure deals with AI companies within weeks.
Start-ups like ElevenLabs, Stability AI, Suno, Udio, and Klay Vision were involved in the discussions, the report said.
FT reported that the two music companies are also in talks with larger corporations, including Google (GOOG [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GOOG]) and Spotify (SPOT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SPOT]).
The report said that the focus of the discussions was on how the labels license their songs for creating AI-generated tracks and for training large language models.
The music companies are looking to get paid in the same way as streaming service providers, who get a micropayment every time a song gets played, according to the FT report.
