Hong Kong Unemployment Rate Remains Stable

Hong Kong’s Census and Statistics Department announced that the unemployment rate for the period between May and July 2010 remained unchanged at 5.2%. This is the same rate as recorded between April and June 2010.

The underemployment rate also remained stable, standing at 2.4% during the same period.

According to the department, the total number of unemployed individuals in Hong Kong is around 202,800. The number of underemployed individuals is approximately 91,000.

The Labour and Welfare Bureau expressed that the stable unemployment rate reflects the ongoing recovery in the Hong Kong economy. They also noted that the government will continue to monitor the employment situation closely and implement measures to support job creation.

Key sectors contributing to employment include:

  • Retail
  • Tourism
  • Financial Services

The government is encouraging businesses to invest in training and development programs to enhance the skills of the workforce and improve competitiveness.

Specific figures show that the total number of unemployed individuals in Hong Kong is approximately 188,300. The underemployed population stands at around 84,700.

The Hong Kong government continues to monitor the employment situation closely, implementing measures to support job creation and maintain stability in the labor market.
