Trump slams court ruling blocking land transfer for Rio Tinto-BHP copper project in Arizona

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized an appeals court ruling that temporarily halted [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4487079-appeals-court-blocks-land-transfer-for-bhps-arizona-copper-project] a land transfer essential for Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/RIO]) and BHP (NYSE:BHP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BHP]) to advance the Resolution Copper project in Arizona.

Trump's post on his Truth Social platform came after he and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum met at the White House with the CEOs of Rio and BHP, two of the world's largest mining companies.

Trump called the court a "radical left court" and said that those who oppose the mine "are Anti-American, and representing other copper competitive Countries."

Resolution is one of the largest undeveloped copper projects in the world, and the companies say it could supply as much as 25% of current U.S. demand for copper.

The project, a joint venture that is 55% owned by Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/RIO#hasComeFromMpArticle=false#source=section%3Amain_content%7Cbutton%3Abody_link%7Cfirst_level_url%3Anews]) and 45% by BHP (NYSE:BHP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BHP#hasComeFromMpArticle=false#source=section%3Amain_content%7Cbutton%3Abody_link%7Cfirst_level_url%3Anews]), has faced legal challenges from Native American people, religious groups, and others who say the planned mine will turn a sacred area into a crater.
