Baker Hughes (NASDAQ:BKR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BKR]) signed an agreement with Iraq-based Halfaya Gas Company to advance a major flare gas reduction project at the Bin Umar gas processing plant in southeastern Iraq.

This initiative is designed to recover up to 300 million standard cubic feet per day of flared gas, which would otherwise be wasted, and convert it into treated dry gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and condensate for domestic use and export.

The deal follows a MOU signed in April 2024 and the project aims to reduce upstream flaring and transform waste emissions from the gas processing plant into valuable products.

The companies have also agreed to collaborate on the development of upstream oilfields in Iraq, which includes exploring strategic opportunities to develop local maintenance and repair services, along with an industrial manufacturing collaboration, the company said in a statement. The flare gas recovery system is part of Baker Hughes’ broad portfolio of emissions abatement solutions.
