Equinor (NYSE:EQNR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQNR]) said Thursday it has stopped all non-essential activity until further notice at its Mongstad oil refinery after a worker died in an accident [https://www.upstreamonline.com/safety/fatal-accident-at-key-equinor-facility/2-1-1873733] related to a lifting operation at the Norwegian plant.
Equinor (NYSE:EQNR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQNR]) said the worker was employed by Crane Norway, a supplier of crane and lifting services at the Mongstad refinery, which is the largest oil refinery in Norway, with a processing capacity of ~12M metric tons/year of crude, producing a range of products including gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.
Some of the refinery's production already was shut down due to continuing maintenance, the company said.
Relevant law enforcement authorities already have initiated an investigation into the accident and Equinor (NYSE:EQNR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQNR]) also will investigate the incident, the company said.
