Newmont weighing deal for Barrick’s Nevada gold assets - Bloomberg

Newmont (NYSE:NEM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NEM]) is considering a potential deal to gain control of rival Barrick Mining's (NYSE:B [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/B]) prized Nevada gold assets, although it is unclear how receptive Barrick would be to any overtures, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Newmont (NYSE:NEM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NEM]) already owns a minority stake in a Nevada gold mining joint venture with operator Barrick (NYSE:B [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/B]), but Newmont reportedly is in the early stages of considering various transaction structures that would allow it to gain full ownership of the assets.

Newmont (NEM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NEM]) could consider options including a bid for Barrick's (B [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/B]) stake in the JV as well as a full takeover of the company followed by divestments of assets it views as non-core, according to the report [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-24/newmont-said-to-eye-deal-for-barrick-s-prized-nevada-gold-assets].

The company is said to be less interested in Barrick's (B [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/B]) African operations and the Reko Diq copper-gold project in Pakistan.

Newmont (NEM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NEM]) shares closed -6.2% on Friday, as better than expected Q3 earnings [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4508009-newmont-slips-despite-q3-earnings-beat-as-gold-production-drops-15] were overshadowed by concerns over weaker production and its forecast for a modest drop in gold production next year due to planned mine sequencing at key operations.

Separately, Newmont (NEM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NEM]) said its Ahafo North project in Ghana has achieved commercial production [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4508009-newmont-slips-despite-q3-earnings-beat-as-gold-production-drops-15], marking the successful completion of "one of West Africa's most significant recent mining developments."
