Weekly ETF flows: Eight out of 11 sectors record outflows; Gold leads with higher inflows

The world's largest exchange-traded fund, SPDR S&P 500 Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SPY]), saw an inflow of $11.35 billion for the week ending September 26. However, the broader index tracking SPDR S&P 500 Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SPY]) declined 0.75% during the last week.

The bitcoin fund- iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/IBIT]) registered an inflow of $457.25 million last week. However, Bitcoin (BTC-USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BTC-USD]) slipped over 2% last week. Gold SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GLD]) saw an inflow of $1.32 billion last week. GLD gained nearly 0.50%_ _last week.

LAST WEEK’S INFLOWS/OUTFLOWS

The 11 S&P 500 sector tracking ETFs, together, recorded a net outflow of about $6.39 billion last week, according to the data from etfdb.com.

Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLK]) led the outflow as eight out of 11 sectors saw money flowing out of their respective sector wise funds. The Technology Sector (XLK [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLK]) saw an outflow of $2.73 billion, followed by the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLF]) with $2.2 billion flowing out last week. The Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLC]) saw an outflow of $1.26 billion last week.

The highest inflow of funds last week was seen in the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLP]), with an inflow of $546.19 million, followed by the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLRE]), which saw an inflow of $33.48 million. The Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/XLI]) saw an inflow of $7.56 million last week.
