Bitcoin, Ether kick off “Uptober” with strong gains

The highly anticipated “Uptober” is off to a strong start, with momentum picking up on day one. Bitcoin (BTC-USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BTC-USD]) surged past $116,000, rising 2% in the past 24 hours.

Ether (ETH [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ETH]) is following Bitcoin’s lead, climbing nearly 4% in the past 24 hours to trade around $4,299. The rally comes amid the U.S. government entering a shutdown [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4500390-us-government-shutdown-officially-begins]and a record-setting strength in gold, which is trading near $3,900.
