SoCal Edison’s equipment 'likely' to be found cause of Eaton Fire, CEO says

Edison International (NYSE:EIX [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EIX]) CEO Pedro Pizarro said it is likely that the company’s utility equipment could be found to be associated with the start of the deadly Eaton Fire, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Southern California Edison (NYSE:EIX [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EIX]) is not able to reasonably estimate a range of losses that may be incurred from claims resulting from the wildfire, Pizarro reportedly said on the company's Q3 earnings conference call, according to Bloomberg.

The company is confident it would make a "good faith showing" that its conduct with respect to its transmission facilities in the Eaton Canyon area was "consistent with actions of a reasonable utility," Pizarro also reportedly said.

Edison (EIX [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EIX]) does not expect to need to issue new debt or equity to cover losses from Eaton Fire, CDO Maria Rigatti said on the call, according to the report [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-28/edison-s-equipment-likely-to-be-deemed-cause-of-la-fire-ceo].

Edison (EIX [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EIX]) reported better than expected Q3 adjusted earnings [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4509720-edison-non-gaap-eps-of-2_34-beats-by-0_16-revenue-of-5_75b-in-line] and narrowed FY 2025 EPS guidance to $5.95-$6.20 from its previous estimate of $5.94-$6.34, in line with $6.06 FactSet Consensus.
