The sales came after Microsoft reported third-quarter capital expenditures of $34.9 billion, exceeding Wall Street estimates. The company's stock has fallen about 8% since the earnings release on Oct. 29, reflecting investor unease over rising AI infrastructure costs.

Despite the decline, Smith remains heavily invested in Microsoft, retaining more than 460,000 shares valued at roughly $240 million. He has been one of the company's most vocal advocates for artificial intelligence, calling it the next great general-purpose technology.
