Argentine banks, including Banco BBVA Argentina (NYSE:BBAR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BBAR]) (+3.4%), Banco Macro (NYSE:BMA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BMA]) (+3.6%), Grupo Supervielle (NYSE:SUPV [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/SUPV]) (+1.7%), and Grupo Financiero Galicia (+1.1%) after U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to help Argentina, but stopped short of offering a bailout.

Argentina has been suffering from rampant inflation, 35.9% in 2025, according to the IMF data mapper [https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/profile/ARG].

Trump offered support to Argentine leader Javier Milei on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Tuesday. "We’re going to help them," the U.S. president said. "I don’t think they need a bailout."

A White House official told [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-23/trump-backs-milei-and-dismisses-need-for-bailout-in-argentina?srnd=homepage-americas]Bloomberg News that a financial announcement regarding Argentina will be made later on Tuesday.

On Monday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. would provide "all options for stabilization" to Milei, who is working to keep the country from slipping back into crisis. Potential options include currency swap lines, direct currency repurchases, and U.S. dollar-denominated debt from the Treasury's exchange stabilization fund, among others, according to a Bloomberg report [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-22/bessent-says-all-options-on-table-to-steady-milei-s-argentina].

Milei won the Argentine presidency in 2023 after promising massive economic reforms to improve the country's volatile economy.

The Global X MSCI Argentina ETF (NYSEARCA:ARGT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ARGT]) rose 2.2% and the Argentinian peso (ARS:USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ARS:USD]) rose 3.1% against the U.S. dollar in Tuesday afternoon trading.
