From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Bank of America Corporation's (NYSE:BAC ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Bank of America

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Co-President, James DeMare, for US$6.8m worth of shares, at about US$45.57 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$53.20). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 40% of James DeMare's stake. The only individual insider seller over the last year was James DeMare.
