BMO Capital Markets led the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial advisory rankings in the metals and mining sector for the first three quarters of 2025 (Q1–Q3 2025), according to GlobalData, a data and analytics company.

As per an analysis of GlobalData’s financial deals database, BMO advised on 12 deals valued at $7.3bn, securing the top position in both deal value and volume.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “BMO Capital Markets was the only adviser to hit double-digit deal volume during Q1–Q3 2025. Moreover, some of the deals advised by it were big-ticket deals, which helped it occupy the top spot by value as well. During Q1–Q3 2025, BMO Capital Markets advised on three billion-dollar deals.”

JP Morgan followed BMO Capital Markets in terms of deal value, advising on transactions worth $5.5bn. CIBC Capital Markets, National Bank of Canada and GenCap Mining Advisory completed the top five, with deal values of $4.4bn and $2.6bn, respectively.

In terms of deal volume, Evans & Evans secured the second position with seven deals. Beaumont Cornish also completed seven deals but took third position due to lesser-value deals.

CIBC Capital Markets and SP Angel Corporate Finance took fourth and fifth spot in the volume table. Although both entities advised on six deals each, CIBC took the fourth spot because of higher deal value.

GlobalData’s league tables are based on the real-time tracking of thousands of company websites, advisory firm websites and other reliable sources available in the secondary domain. A dedicated team of analysts monitors all these sources to gather in-depth details for each deal, including adviser names.

To ensure further robustness to the data, the company also seeks submissions of deals from leading advisers.
