Anheuser-Busch InBev investing $15B in St Louis brewery

As part of its initiative to invest in U.S. production and capitalize on a new Missouri law favorable to domestic brewers, Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BUD]) is investing $15M in its St. Louis brewery to increase supply chain efficiencies and train the local workforce.

The investment leverages Missouri’s recently enacted American Beer Act [https://www.nabca.org/license-state-news/missouri-gov-kehoe-signs-american-beer-act-law]which lowers the state excise tax on malt liquor sold in the U.S. by 67%. Malt beverages made outside the U.S. will continue to pay the higher price for a barrel of malt liquor.

The company’s multi-million dollar investment aims to lower transportation costs of ingredients to the brewery, while also allocating funds to open a Technical Excellence Center in partnership with the National Association of Manufacturers, and create more job opportunities for veterans.

“Missouri's American Beer Act will enable brewers like us to bring meaningful investments to our hometown of St. Louis and across the state for decades to come, ensuring long-term economic vitality while continuing to strengthen the overall American manufacturing sector," Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth said in a statement [https://seekingalpha.com/pr/20204619-anheuser-busch-continues-to-deliver-on-recent-300-million-commitment-to-american].

Currently, the company has 12 breweries in the U.S., including its Baldwinsville, NY facility, which recently received a $9M investment [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4478201-anheuser-busch-to-invest-9m-in-baldwinsville-brewery] to expand its capacity to produce Beyond Beer offerings.
