Rick Rieder, who oversees asset management giant BlackRock's (NYSE:BLK [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BLK]) fixed income business, is climbing in the the list of potential successors to Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair, according to a media report published Friday.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent interviewed Rieder for the role during a two-hour meeting in New York, discussing monetary policy, the Fed's structure, and regulatory oversight, Bloomberg reported, citing an administration official.

Bessent praised Rieder's extensive markets background, as well as his leadership of large investment teams, his grasp of both micro- and macroeconomic forces, and his strength in applying forward-looking frmaeworks to gauge the economy, a person familiar with Bessent's thinking told Bloomberg.

So far, Bessent has sat down with four of the 11 publicly identified contenders for the Fed chair role, and the roster is expected to grow by another one or two names, the administration official said, the article said [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-12/blackrock-s-rick-rieder-climbs-ranks-of-fed-chair-contenders].
