The Dow Jones Industrial Average and other major indexes posted healthy gains Friday after a lower-than-expected inflation report. IBM soared 7.9% and helped lift the Dow, as well as chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices. All three major indexes got a boost as the U.S. Consumer Price Index readout came in softer than expected, paving the way for more interest rate cuts.
