ANCHORAGE—Local entrepreneurs rushed to take advantage of a surprise business opportunity from the summit, after a challenging summer in which tourism has been hampered by factors including the nationwide slowdown in foreign travel. David Lyles, manager of the 90-room Ramada by Wyndham in downtown Anchorage, said he went from being 60% full with rooms running about $300 a night to fully booked with rooms $500-$1,000 per night. Lyles said the summit boom came as Alaska’s tourism season is winding down.
