The Dallas Fed Manufacturing Survey's general business activity index, released Monday, improved in October but stayed in negative territory at -5.0, compared with -8.7 in the prior month.
The production index was unchanged at 5.2, signaling below-average output growth for the second straight month, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas said.

Expectations for manufacturing activity six months from now stayed in positive territory, though optimism deteriorated. The future production index sliding to 21.0 from 31.6, while the future general business activity index slipped to 7.0.
