President Donald Trump dismissed speculation that he could run as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2028 election, rejecting suggestions from some supporters seeking ways around the Constitution’s two-term limit for presidents.

“It’s too cute,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday, firmly ruling out the idea.

Some of Trump’s backers had floated a scenario in which a different candidate would run for president with Trump as their running mate, then resign after taking office to return him to the presidency.

While Trump has not explicitly ruled out pursuing another presidential term despite the constitutional restriction, he said the Republican Party would have a strong field of contenders in 2028, citing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance among them.
