Investing.com -- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed on Monday that five candidates are finalists to succeed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
The shortlist includes current Fed board members Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh, White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, and BlackRock Inc. executive Rick Rieder.
Bessent, who is leading the interview process, told reporters while traveling on Air Force One that he plans to conduct another round of interviews. He aims to present a "good slate" of candidates to President Donald Trump after the Thanksgiving holiday.
President Trump informed reporters that he expects to make his decision on the nominee before the end of the year.
The selection will determine who will lead the U.S. central bank after Powell’s term concludes.
