_UPDATE AT 3:14 PM ET TO ADD THAT REPUBLICANS' REJECTED DEMOCRATS' PROPOSAL TO END THE SHUTDOWN._

U.S. Senate Democrats on Friday scaled back their demands to end the 38-day government shutdown -- the longest in history -- but said they would only support a temporary spending bill if it includes a one-year extension of expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies, according to a media report.

The proposal, said Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, is a "reasonable offer" and "the Senate could do this within a few hours," Bloomberg reported.

But the offer was reportedly rejected by Republicans, a GOP aide said. _(Added at 3:14 PM ET.)_

Democrats had pushed for $1.5T in additional spending, Bloomberg [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-11-07/democrats-trim-shutdown-demands-as-travel-food-aid-delays-hit?srnd=homepage-americas] noted, comprising a permanent $350B expansion of ACA tax credits and the elimination of GOP-backed Medicaid work requirements enacted this year.
