* United Airlines Holdings (UAL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/UAL]) said it plans to cut roughly 510 flights between Friday and Sunday in response to a Federal Aviation Administration directive to scale back operations during the U.S. government shutdown.
* With around 700 Friday flights already canceled by the four biggest airlines, the U.S. aviation market has become a flashpoint in the ongoing political fight over federal funding as President Donald Trump pushes for a deal.
* Delta (DAL [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/DAL]) said it was cancelling around 170 flights on Friday and fewer on Saturday because it is a lighter travel day.
* The FAA also issued a ground stop at Harry Reid international airport. The ground stop, in place until 11:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 7, was issued due to staffing shortages and has a medium chance of being extended, according to an advisory.
