Chinese carmaker BYD to recall record number of cars over design, battery issues

BYD Company (OTCPK:BYDDF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BYDDF]) announced its largest vehicle recall to date, affecting more than 115,000 cars due to safety-related design and battery defects identified [https://www.samr.gov.cn/zw/zh/art/2025/art_4346e26ed0704a69a5c0b14ab1854534.html] by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation.

BYD (OTCPK:BYDDF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BYDDF]) filed a plan to recall 44,535 units of the Tang series manufactured between March 2015 and July 2017 due to certain component design flaws may cause abnormal function.

Meanwhile, 71,248 units of the Yuan Pro electric vehicles, produced from February 2021 to August 2022, are being recalled over due to manufacturing issues affecting battery installation.

Previously, in January, the company made a recall of 6,843 Fangchengbao Bao 5 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs citing fire risks.
