* JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/JPM]) CEO Jamie Dimon said the recent bankruptcies of two auto-related companies, First Brands and Tricolor Holdings, are signs that lending standards had become too lax in recent years.
“We’ve had a credit bull market now for the better part of what, since 2010 or 2012? That’s like 14 years,” Dimon told CNBC [https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/14/jamie-dimon-auto-bankruptcies-lending-excess.html].
“These are early signs there might be some excess out there because of it,” Dimon continued. “If we ever have a downturn, you’re going to see quite a bit more credit issues.”
JPMorgan (NYSE:JPM [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/JPM]) was one of Tricolor's lenders. The bank recorded $170 million in charge-offs for Q3 related to the auto dealer's demise. JPMorgan released its Q3 report on Tuesday.
“It is not our finest moment,” Dimon said of Tricolor in his CNBC interview. “When something like that happens, you could assume that we scour every issue... You can never completely avoid these things, but the discipline is to look at it in cold light and go through every single little thing.”
* Walmart (NYSE:WMT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/WMT]) shoppers will soon be able to "chat and buy" their items directly through OpenAI's (OPENAI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/OPENAI]) ChatGPT.
“For many years now, eCommerce shopping experiences have consisted of a search bar and a long list of item responses. That is about to change," said Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, in a statement [https://seekingalpha.com/pr/20265085-walmart-partners-with-openai-to-create-ai-first-shopping-experiences].
"There is a native AI experience coming that is multi-media, personalized and contextual. We are running towards that more enjoyable and convenient future with Sparky and through partnerships including this important step with OpenAI,” McMillon added. Sparky is Walmart's AI shopping assistant.
OpenAI counts Microsoft (MSFT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MSFT]) and Nvidia (NVDA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NVDA]) as key investors. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AMD]) also has a deal to buy up to 10% of the company. The AI developer was co-founded by Elon Musk.
* Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that China is trying to undermine the global economy by restricting access to rare earth minerals because their own economy is in trouble.
In an interview with the Financial Times [https://www.ft.com/content/fbc5f7bc-b36c-4a12-9c5e-a3f0c19aad12?accessToken=zwAAAZni1rcTkdP7xfe8s2xKEtOcXqPwwZqtEg.MEQCIBVkL12_Nip2V-ZAb09zWKwiaVHrM3mL6W53OT28QqKaAiBFkYLWl39a2-nKOKIGngJd2o1OF1qOK_TgFQxtVGdSGQ&segmentId=e95a9ae7-622c-6235-5f87-51e412b47e97&shareType=enterprise&shareId=981fb2bb-a46f-4c7e-85f1-0885b53282cc], Bessent said the Chinese were trying to “to pull everyone else down with them," but that "if they want to slow down the global economy, they will be hurt the most."
“They are in the middle of a recession/depression, and they are trying to export their way out of it. The problem is they’re exacerbating their standing in the world,” Bessent added, according to a CNBC story [https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/14/bessent-china-rare-earths.html] on the interview.
