Trump says China, others may face limits on access to Nvidia’s top AI chips

Nvidia's (NVDA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NVDA]) most advanced chips will be reserved for U.S. companies and kept out of China and other countries, President Donald Trump said.

During a taped interview that aired on Sunday on CBS's "60 Minutes" program and in comments to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said only U.S. customers should have access to the top-end Blackwell chips offered by the AI giant.

"The most advanced, we will not let anybody have them other than the United States," he told CBS.

The President added that he would not allow the sale of the most advanced Blackwell chips to Chinese companies but suggested they might still be able to access a less powerful version.

"We will let them deal with Nvidia, but not in terms of the most advanced," he said during the "60 Minutes" interview.

Trump last week indicated he might raise the issue of the chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead of their summit in South Korea but later said the subject was not discussed.

Nvidia (NVDA [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NVDA]) CEO Jensen Huang, however, has said he still hopes to one day sell chips from the company’s Blackwell lineup to Chinese customers, though there are currently no such plans.

NVDA shares have advanced over 50% YTD.
