Greece stocks higher at close of trade; Athens General Composite up 0.67%

Investing.com – Greece stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Construction and Travel sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Athens, the Athens General Composite rose 0.67% to hit a new 5-year high.

The best performers of the session on the Athens General Composite were Evropi Holdings SA (AT:EVROr), which rose 5.82% or 0.12 points to trade at 2.09 at the close. Meanwhile, Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (AT:OLTr) added 5.03% or 1.70 points to end at 35.50 and Viohalco SA (AT:VIOH) was up 4.64% or 0.30 points to 6.77 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Piraeus Port (AT:OLPr), which fell 1.71% or 0.80 points to trade at 46.05 at the close. Metlen Energy & Metals AE (AT:MYTr) declined 0.98% or 0.55 points to end at 55.45 and Quest Holdings (AT:IQTr) was down 0.90% or 0.07 points to 7.73.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Athens Stock Exchange by 105 to 23 and 18 ended unchanged.

Shares in Evropi Holdings SA (AT:EVROr) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.82% or 0.12 to 2.09. Shares in Viohalco SA (AT:VIOH) rose to 52-week highs; rising 4.64% or 0.30 to 6.77.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.43% or 14.50 to $3,413.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.55% or 0.98 to hit $62.19 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 0.84 to trade at $65.28 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.17, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 97.56.
