QatarEnergy and its partners have secured an exploration licence for the deepwater Nzombo offshore block in the Republic of Congo, following the signing of a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with the Congolese government.
Under the PSC, QatarEnergy holds a 35% participating interest. TotalEnergies’ affiliate in Congo will operate the block with a 50% stake, while Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC) retains the remaining 15%.
“We are pleased to be awarded this promising offshore block in the Republic of Congo, and to work alongside our valued partners and the Congolese Government,” said His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of QatarEnergy. He thanked the authorities for their cooperation and said the partners “look forward to delivering on a successful exploration campaign.”
The Nzombo block lies about 90 km off Pointe-Noire and spans 1,053 square kilometers. Water depths exceed 1,000 meters, positioning the acreage firmly in Congo’s deepwater fairway.
The award broadens QatarEnergy’s exploration footprint in Africa and pairs the company with an experienced operator in Congolese waters. Next steps are expected to include seismic and prospect maturation ahead of potential drilling, subject to regulatory approvals and partner alignment.
