Equinor mulls over renewable asset combination with Danish wind developer Orsted - report

Equinor (NYSE:EQNR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQNR]) chairman Jon Erik Reinhardsen said that the business has an "open-mind" regarding its collaboration with Danish wind developer Orsted A/S (OTCPK:DNNGY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/DNNGY]) (OTCPK:DOGEF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/DOGEF]), including the potential to merge their renewable assets, _Bloomberg_ reported, citing an interview on the sidelines of the Pareto Securities energy conference in Oslo.

“We will always consider what’s optimum for our shareholders in terms of what structure is best suited here,” he said [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-09-10/equinor-mulls-option-of-combining-renewable-assets-with-orsted]. “In what form that ends up being, we have an open mind.”

Last week, Equinor (NYSE:EQNR [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/EQNR]) unveiled plans to invest nearly $1B of capital [https://www.ft.com/content/c27bdeac-a77d-4258-a4f3-300f8d0daae6] into Ørsted's (OTCPK:DNNGY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/DNNGY]) emergency fundraising after the Danish renewable energy company came under pressure from the Trump administration's clampdown on offshore wind projects.

“We are basically in the first real crisis of the offshore wind industry, with a strong inflation, regulatory challenges and, not least, what we’ve seen in the US lately,” Reinhardsen said. “But underlying, we are strong believers in offshore wind and the place it has in the overall energy supply.”

“We need size in this industry just as we have seen it in the oil and gas industry, it’s how the super majors were formed,” Reinhardsen added. “We have to build stronger alliances here that can tackle this market.”

Orsted stock traded 3% higher on Wednesday during pre-market hours.
