Gold Fields completes Gold Road takeover, sells Northern Star stake for A$1.1B

Gold Fields (NYSE:GFI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GFI]) +3.1% in Friday's trading after finalizing [https://www.miningweekly.com/article/gold-fields-clears-final-hurdles-in-33b-gold-road-takeover-2025-09-26] its A$3.3 billion (~US$2.4 billion) purchase of Gold Road Resources (OTCPK:ELKMF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ELKMF]), allowing it to take 100% ownership of the Gruyere gold mine in Western Australia, and agreeing to a A$1.1 billion (US$725 million) sale of shares in Northern Star Resources (OTCPK:NESRF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NESRF]) held by Gold Road.

The Gold Road (OTCPK:ELKMF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ELKMF]) takeover became legally effective following court orders lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

The Gruyere mine, which Gold Fields (NYSE:GFI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GFI]) has operated in a joint venture with Gold Road (OTCPK:ELKMF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ELKMF]), is expected to produce 325,000-350,000 oz of gold this year.

Gold Fields (GFI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GFI]) said proceeds from the Northern Star (OTCPK:NESRF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NESRF]) sale will be used to repay part of the bridge facility that will be drawn down to fund the Gold Road (OTCPK:ELKMF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ELKMF]) takeover.

Gold Fields (GFI [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/GFI]) shares have tripled YTD, riding a record-breaking rally in gold that saw prices hit another all-time high [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4498154-gold-rises-to-another-record-high-deutsche-bank-hikes-forecast-to-4000] this week.
