Rare Earth stocks surge on US-China tensions; Arafura soars 27%, Australian Strategic Materials jumps 42%

* Rare earth stocks extended their rally on Monday as renewed tensions between Beijing and Washington over China’s export controls lifted hopes of alternative supply sources.
* Arafura Rare Earths (OTCPK:ARAFF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ARAFF]), which is developing a rare earths mine in Australia’s Northern Territory, jumped as much as 27% to its highest level in more than two years.
* Lynas Rare Earths (OTCPK:LYSCF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/LYSCF]), already a key global producer, climbed as much as 8.5%; Iluka Resources (OTCPK:ILKAF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ILKAF]) advanced as much as 6.3%, while Australian Strategic Materials (OTCPK:ASMMF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ASMMF]) scaled as much as 42%.
* Separately, an Australian newspaper reported [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4503489-australia-eyes-floor-prices-for-critical-minerals-before-trump-meeting]potential plans for a broad rare earths deal between Australia and the US.
* MP Materials (MP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/MP]), which got backing from the US Department of Defense earlier this year, on Friday jumped more than 8% in New York to its highest close ever.
