Bakkt stock surges after adding fintech entrepreneur, investor to board

Bakkt Holdings (NYSE:BKKT [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BKKT]) stock climbed 36% in Monday premarket trading after the crypto-linked company named Mike Alfred to its board in a bid to accelerate its growth in digital payments.

Alfred is a private investor, adviser, and board director with a record of founding, scaling, and exiting fintech businesses, the company said. He co-founded BrightScope, which was acquired by Strategic Insight, and later Digital Assets, which was acquired by NYDIG.

He is currently founder and managing partner of Alpine Fox LP, a private investment fund focused on bitcoin (BTC-USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BTC-USD]) and AI-related equities. He serves on the board of IREN (IREN [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/IREN]), which owns and operates data centers and mines bitcoin.

"Bakkt has a unique opportunity to deliver a trusted fintech platform for institutions in four transformative trends over the next decade: digital asset trading, stablecoin payments, AI agents and Bitcoin," Alfred said. "I look forward to partnering with the board and leadership to advance Bakkt’s strategy and value creation."
