Tether sees profit approaching $15B this year - report

Tether Holdings, the issuer of the largest stablecoin by market cap (USDT-USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/USDT-USD]), expects almost $15B in profit this year, according to a media report on Friday.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies that seek to peg their value with another asset, usually a fiat currency like the U.S. dollar, on a one-to-one basis. Tether's USDT token is backed mostly by cash and short-term U.S. government det. Last year, its reserve earned the company ~$13B in profit due to elevated interest rates.

"This year we're going to approach another $15B profit. That's very rare," Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino told [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-24/stablecoin-leader-tether-expects-profit-to-increase-to-15-billion-this-year?srnd=homepage-americas] Bloomberg News in an interview. The estimate implies that profitability has accelerated from the first half of the year, when it earned $5.7B. Tether tokens' (USDT-USD [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/USDT-USD]) market cap currently stands at ~$183B, according to CoinMarketCap, making it the most circulated stablecoin globally. On Oct. 21, USDT token reached 500M users, the company's CEO, Paolo Ardoino posted [https://x.com/paoloardoino/status/1980621793812512982]on his X account.

In September, he said [https://x.com/paoloardoino/status/1970657524891496959]the company was evaluating a capital raise "from a selected group of high-profile key investors, to maximize the scale of the Company's strategy across all existing and new business lines (stablecoins, distribution ubiquity, AI, commodity trading, energy, communications, media) by several orders of magnitude."

At about that same time, Bloomberg reported that Tether was seeking to raise $20B [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4498135-crypto-power-tether-seeking-500b-valuation-in-new-capital-raise---report]or more for a 3% stake in the firm, which would give it a valuation of over $500B.
