A strong start to earnings outweighed lingering U.S. China trade uncertainty. The luxury sector led the declines, with Hermes (OTCPK:HESAY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/HESAY]) (OTCPK:HESAF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/HESAF]) dropped after its quarterly results disappointed investors, while L’Oreal (OTCPK:LRLCF [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/LRLCF]) (OTCPK:LRLCY [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/LRLCY]) plunged on weaker-than-expected third-quarter sales.
In the bond market, the yield on the US 10-year Treasury was flat at 3.96%.
Germany's 10-year yield was down less than 1 basis point to 2.55%.
UK's 10-year yield was down 7 basis points to 4.41%.
