Union Pacific reached out to CSX after pact with Norfolk - CNBC

Union Pacific (UNP [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/UNP]) reached out to CSX Corp. (NASDAQ:CSX [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/CSX]) only after it had reached an exclusive pact with Norfolk Southern (NSC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/NSC]).

_"_CSX never had an opportunity to talk with UNP," CNBC's Becky Quick said [https://www.cnbc.com/video/2025/08/26/union-pacific-reached-out-to-csx-only-after-exclusivity-with-norfolk-southern-sources.html] on Tuesday. "Union Pacific did not reach out to CSX until after it already had an exclusive arrangement with Norfolk Southern."

The update comes after CNBC reported on Monday that Berkshire Hathaway's (BRK.B [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BRK.B]) BNSF railroad is not in the marke [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4488917-berkshire-hathaway-not-in-the-market-to-buy-a-train-company-cnbc]t to purchase a train company.
