CoreWeave has agreed to acquire Monolith AI, a company specialising in AI and machine learning (ML) applications for physics and engineering problems.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, and its completion remains subject to customary closing conditions.
By pairing Monolith’s simulation- and test-driven ML with CoreWeave’s purpose-built AI cloud, the two companies can deliver a comprehensive platform for industrial and manufacturing customers.
The goal is to facilitate faster research and development (R&D) cycles, streamline product design workflows, and enable adoption of AI in traditional engineering environments.
Monolith’s platform is currently utilised by engineering firms such as Nissan, BMW, and Honeywell to reduce the time required for product development processes.
Its suite includes anomaly detection, test plan optimisation, and test recommendation tools, which are integrated directly into engineering workflows.
These capabilities allow engineers without in-house AI or coding expertise to automate decision making and minimise reliance on physical testing.
Monolith founder and CEO Dr Richard Ahlfeld said: “Monolith was founded to put AI directly into the hands of engineers, enabling them to create breakthrough technologies. Joining CoreWeave will allow us to scale that mission dramatically.”
The acquisition of Monolith follows a series of moves by CoreWeave to extend its reach in applied AI cloud services.
Recent additions include OpenPipe for reinforcement learning and Weights & Biases for experiment tracking and model management infrastructure.
CoreWeave also serves the automotive industry as the Official AI Cloud Computing Partner of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, where it supports the team’s large-scale cloud computing facility.
CoreWeave co-founder and chief strategy officer Brian Venturo said: “Every leader we meet across the industrial and manufacturing sectors knows AI can transform their business. What they need are the right tools to use the technology to solve intractable physics and engineering problems.”
Recently, CoreWeave signed an expanded agreement with OpenAI, securing a contract worth up to $6.5bn to provide infrastructure for training the next-generation AI models of the ChatGPT creator.
