Barclays to buy U.S. loan firm Best Egg for $800 million

Barclays (NYSE:BCS [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BCS]) to acquire the U.S. personal loan originator Best Egg for $800 million,to expand its presence in the American consumer finance market.

The acquisition, expected to close in Q2 2026 pending regulatory approvals, will add substantial scale and improve capital efficiency for Barclays’s U.S. consumer banking subsidiary.

Best Egg originates consumer loans via an online platform, facilitating over $40 billion of loans for two million customers since its launch in 2013, according to a _Reuters _report.

Barclays (NYSE:BCS [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BCS]) expects this deal to deliver attractive returns comparable to its best-performing businesses in the UK and anticipates accretion to both its return on tangible equity (ROTE) and EPS from 2027 onward.
