China's exports of rare earth magnets hit a six-month high in July, rising nearly 75% from June, reaching 5,577 metric tons—the highest monthly total since January, recovering to pre-curb levels.
The volumes are back to levels seen before Beijing introduced the stricter license requirements in April as a response to U.S. tariffs. This brings partial relief to global industries dependent on these critical minerals, like electric vehicles and renewables.
The rebound follows new arrangements between China, the U.S., and Europe aimed at accelerating shipments and relaxing the previous controls.
Germany remained the leading destination, importing 1,116 tons (a 46% increase M/M), while U.S. imports of Chinese rare earth magnets reached 619 tons, surging by 75.5% from June and exceeding last year’s figures for the same month.
