[Economic Tariffs Concept]

U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media late Friday to announce his displeasure over an appeals court ruling that struck down many historic tariffs he implemented early this year after finding that he overstepped his presidential authority to impose the levies. “All tariffs are still in effect!” Trump wrote shortly after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, in a 7-4 decision, upheld a lower court ruling, noting that a decades-old law that the president invoked doesn’t authorize him to declare the trade deficit a national emergency as a justification for the tariffs.
“If these Tariffs ever went away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong,” Trump added [https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/donald-trump-as-us-court-calls-his-us-tariffs-illegal-would-be-total-disaster-if-is-removed-9184717], suggesting that his administration will appeal the ruling.
The court in Washington, DC, voided Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs that set a 10% baseline tariff on nearly all U.S. trading partners and his so-called “reciprocal” tariffs on countries against which the U.S. had trade deficits.
However, the court said that the ruling will not take effect until October 14, giving the White House time to file an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court.
“If allowed to stand, this Decision would literally destroy the United States of America,” Trump said. “Now, with the help of the United States Supreme Court, we will use them to the benefit of our Nation, and Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again!”
The case didn’t focus on other Trump tariffs imposed on steel, aluminum, and autos as part of Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, nor on certain China-specific tariffs he imposed during his first term.
On Social media, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the administration will appeal the ruling.
