Poland signs $1.6B deal for advanced air-defense radars

Poland signed a contract valued at 5.8 billion zlotys ($1.58 billion) with the PGZ-Narew consortium to supply 46 passive-location radars designed to strengthen short-range air defense and missile interception capabilities, the country’s defense minister announced on Tuesday.

The agreement underscores Warsaw’s accelerating defense buildup amid what officials describe as a growing threat from Russia. Poland has pledged to raise defense spending to 4.8% of GDP by 2026, the highest level in NATO relative to economic output.

According to the defense ministry, the radars will provide continuous monitoring of airspace and improve the effectiveness of Poland’s integrated anti-aircraft and anti-missile defenses.

The supplier, PGZ-Narew, is a consortium of Polish defense firms led by the state-owned Polish Armaments Group (PGZ [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PGZ]). The partnership is central to the Narew program, Poland’s domestically developed short-range air and missile defense initiative.

The contract was finalized during the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce, a major defense industry showcase in central Poland.
