European indexes edge higher as focus turns to ECB speeches; easing U.S.–China tensions boost sentiment

Switzerland's trade surplus narrowed to CHF 2.8 billion in September.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/STOXX] (STOXX) [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/STOXX] ticked up +0.11% on Tuesday as traders turned their attention to a series of remarks by European Central Bank leaders this week, while easing U.S.–China trade tensions also restored risk appetite.

On the corporate front, HSBC (NYSE:HSBC [https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/HSBC]) gained after naming David Lindberg, former head of retail banking at NatWest, as CEO of its UK operations.

Coca-Cola HBC to acquire a 75% stake [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4505804-coca-cola-hbc-to-acquire-75-stake-in-coca-cola-beverages-africa-for-26-billion] in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa for $2.6 billion.

Swiss watch exports, meanwhile, fell in September, weighed down by the Trump administration’s 39% tariff on imports from Switzerland to the U.S., the industry’s largest market.

IN THE BOND MARKET, the yield on the US 10-year Treasury was unchanged at 3.97%.

Germany's 10-year yield was down 2 basis points at 2.56%.

UK's 10-year yield was down 1 basis point at 4.49%.
