Ontario will pause Reagan ad after Trump's outburst, Doug Ford says

Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, Canada, said Friday the east-central province will pause an ad featuring former U.S. President Ronald Reagan's criticism of tariffs, aiming to reopen trade talks with the U.S.

The ad prompted President Donald Trump on Thursday to end all [https://seekingalpha.com/news/4508056-trump-cancels-trade-negotiations-with-canada-over-reagan-ad] trade negotiations with Canada, accusing the country of trying to influence a pending U.S. Supreme Court case that could doom many of his tariffs.

Prior to his decision to suspend the ad, effective Monday, Ford said he had talked to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

“Our intention was always to initiate a conversation about the kind of economy that Americans want to build and the impact of tariffs on workers and businesses,” Ford wrote [https://x.com/fordnation/status/1981789712516858293] in a post on X, referencing the ad.

“We’ve achieved our goal, having reached U.S. audiences at the highest levels,” He added. “I’ve directed my team to keep putting our message in front of Americans over the weekend so that we can air our commercial during the first two World Series games.”
