OTTAWA—The Canadian government will impose binding arbitration on a labor dispute between the country’s biggest airline carrier, Air Canada and its 10,000 flight attendants, bringing a swift end to an hourslong strike triggered by a disagreement about pay. Canada’s labor policy minister, Patty Hajdu, said Saturday she came to her decision after meeting with the two sides on Friday night and was convinced there was a low likelihood of a near-term deal. Air Canada’s flight attendants went on strike just before 1 a.m. ET Saturday, prompting the carrier to suspend operations.
